Boudica became queen of the Iceni, a Celtic tribe, after the death of her husband, King Prasutagus. Under Emperor Nero, the Roman Empire's oppressive measures incited Boudica to lead a massive rebellion in AD 60 or 61 against Roman forces. Her army captured and destroyed several Roman settlements, including Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London), and Verulamium (St Albans), momentarily threatening Roman rule in Britannia. Despite her military strategies and fierce resistance, Boudica's rebellion was ultimately defeated by Roman governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus. The details of Boudica's fate remain uncertain, with various accounts suggesting she died in battle, took her own life, or succumbed to illness after the defeat.
