The wedding toast is a very important and symbolic part of the wedding reception, a time for certain family members and friends to offer congratulations to the newly married couple while sharing some sentimental and funny stories.

Traditionally, the Best Man would offer the first toast, offering words to the bride and then turning his attention to the groom. Since the Best Man and groom are generally brothers or best friends, you can usually expect some fun stories. The Best Man speech is the main toast and speech although there are others to follow.

For example, once the Best Man has completed his toast and speech, which usually runs five to seven minutes, the Maid of Honor would then toast the groom. Then, the father of the bride toasts the married couple. During his toast and speech, he will mention the wedding party, thank the vendors for their hard work, mention the groomís parents, and formally welcome the groom to the family. From there, the father of the bride shares funny and heartwarming stories about the bride.

When he has completed his toast and speech, the bride and groom would offer a toast to both sets of parents, along with the guests, thanking them for participating in the wedding and making it so special. Now, when it comes to the wedding toast, remember this is how the traditional wedding would be organized but the bride and groom do have the right to change the order if they like.

Don't embarrass the groom!

When offering a toast at a wedding, it is imperative that you not mention anything embarrassing about the bride or groom. The purpose of the toast is to celebrate this new union and the future they will share, not to dig up dirt about the past.
